Canopius swoops on Talbot for cyber underwriter

Canopius Group has appointed Chris Getty as cyber and technology underwriter in a move to enhance its cyber and technology expertise

Getty brings over nine years of experience in the cyber insurance sector. Prior to joining Canopius, he was head of cyber and technology at Talbot Underwriting, where he led underwriting teams in both London and New York. Getty's professional journey began at Barlow Lyde & Gilbert LLP, where he qualified as a solicitor.

This latest hire is part of a broader effort by Canopius to strengthen its Cyber and Technology division. Earlier this year, the company welcomed Sam Minshaw as cyber claims manager and Alex Fyfe as cyber claims adjuster. Catherine Sims was appointed cyber claims adjuster in New York.

Mike Shen, head of cyber & technology at Canopius, said: “Chris is a highly regarded underwriter and leader who has quickly made a name for himself in the cyber market. Our cyber book in London has grown rapidly through a combination of expert underwriting, product innovation, and diversification. Maintaining this momentum requires bringing in market-leading talent to complement our existing team. Chris is the ideal candidate to help us realize our ambitious growth plans while ensuring the exceptional standard and approach which our broking partners expect from Canopius".”

Chris Getty shared his excitement about joining Canopius, noting: “What Canopius has done and continues to do in cyber is truly exciting. In an already innovative and highly technical class, Canopius is increasingly setting a new standard, and their growth ambitions made this opportunity impossible to pass up. I am looking forward to getting started.”
