US airports hit by cyber attacks
The websites of major US airports have been targeted in a series of Denial-of-service attack (DoS) attacks which caused inconveniences but did not hit critical systems.
Citing an unnamed “senior US official”, ABC News said the cyber-attacks came from someone within the Russian Federation.
Investigators are looking into the Russian cyber group Killnet and any possible connections to the war in Ukraine.
The first attack was reported on Monday morning by LaGuardia Airport, but the website has since been restored.
Other airports affected were Des Moines International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, Chicago O'Hare International Airport, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Los Angeles International Airport issued a statement, saying: “Early this morning, the FlyLAX.com website was partially disrupted. The service interruption was limited to portions of the public facing FlyLAX.com website only.
“No internal airport systems were compromised and there were no operational disruptions. The airport’s Information Technology team is working to restore all services and is investigating the cause. The airport has notified the FBI and the Transportation Security Administration about the disruption.”
